“The Ballads of Robin Hood“ have a rich history. Ballads were the first way of stories about the man named Robin Hood. They were told among the people of England. This tradition of passing on stories or history was the best because the minstrel (a medieval singer or musician) could sing in different places to different people.

In the ballads the man who is Robin Hood loves nature and freedom, he has merry time with his men, He fights against evil, but he does not have a problem with king. He is simple against those people who are unjust. Robin becomes the hero of the people for fighting this injustice. Robbing the rich and giving to the poor was his way of bringing the common people to his side.

Robin uses a long bow as his weapon. It was important to be good at the bow and arrow in the 13^th and 14^th centuries because it was the means of hunting and the means of protection.

Robin Hood is the best-loved outlaw of all time.

Баллады о Робин Гуде создавались английским народом не одно столетие, но стали единым эпосом в 15 веке.

У них нет одного автора, это просто легенды, которые по-разному излагались разными людьми. Главное здесь — торжество справедливости и наказание зла: Робин Гуд грабит богатых и отдает бедным награбленное.

 Вся эта книга — настоящий гимн мужеству, дружбе, справедливости.

В 1919 году в издательстве «Всемирная литература» вышел первый в России сборник баллад о Робин Гуде, переведенных Николаем Гумилевым, Георгием Ивановым, Всеволодом Рождественским. Позже баллады переводили Марина Цветаева, Самуил Маршак, Игнатий Ивановский, Михаил Гершензон.
